Kenya: Wetangula, Ruto Allies Rally Budalangi Residents On Flood Safety, Development

BUSIA, Kenya – National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet led Kenya Kwanza-aligned leaders in engaging Budalangi and Butere residents on flood safety and development initiatives. The duo kicked off their visits in Budalangi, Busia County, where Kibet cautioned locals living in flood-prone areas around the lower River Nzoia and Lake Victoria basin to remain vigilant and consider relocating to higher ground ahead of the expected heavy rains.

Wetangula emphasized the need for enhanced security along Lake Victoria to protect fishermen and other livelihood-dependent residents. He urged the national government to strengthen surveillance and increase Coast Guard personnel presence to safeguard these communities. The leaders also highlighted ongoing development projects in Busia, including health, education, fishing, and special economic zone infrastructure.

Their message of political accountability surfaced as they criticized retired President Uhuru Kenyatta for recent political activities, urging him to allow President Ruto to focus on governing. Both Wetangula and Kibet called on Kenyans to support their preferred leaders without allowing political differences to escalate into conflict, particularly as they prepare for the 2027 General Election.
