The institute issued a statement on X, clarifying that "Director IIT Bombay has NOT resigned. We categorically state that the related news is false."

Additionally, IIT Bombay has apologized for earlier statements made regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of second-year BTech student Sahil Wakode. The institute recognized that it was inappropriate to characterize events leading up to Wakode's death before they were confirmed through an investigation.

The institute's statement emphasized that the details and circumstances leading to Wakode's death remain under investigation by the appropriate authorities. It explicitly stated that it was premature to set out or characterize details relating to the events preceding his death until they had been duly established through the appropriate investigative process.
