Hong Kong Ballet to move to city’s first dedicated dance venue in 2027

Hong Kong Ballet plans to move to the city's first dedicated dance venue, the "Dancehouse," at the upcoming WestK Performing Arts Centre, starting in April 2027. This transition comes after the ballet company's departure from its 16-year home at the government-run Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, which raised concerns about the group's lack of a suitable place to perform.

Hong Kong Ballet's artistic director, Septime Webre, expressed relief at finally announcing the move, stating that the new venue allows the group to increase performance weeks annually by over 40%, from seven to ten. The enhanced access to the 1,450-seat grand theatre will enable the company to host more shows, while the additional amenities, such as a dedicated physiotherapy room and spacious changing and shower rooms, provide improved conditions for rehearsals and performances.

Paul Tam Siu-man, executive director of the cultural district's performing arts division, emphasized the strong collaboration between the arts hub and Hong Kong Ballet, with plans to co-invest in future productions, co-curate learning and participation programs, and explore international collaborations. The ballet company will also use the venue as inspiration for its opening gala production, which will feature the late kung fu legend Bruce Lee as a central theme.
