Ex-husband goes on trial for murder of Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi whose remains were found cooked in soup

The Hong Kong Ballet plans to relocate to the city’s inaugural dedicated dance venue, dubbed the “Dancehouse,” at the WestK Performing Arts Centre, beginning in April 2027. This move comes after the ballet company’s departure from its 16-year base at the government-run Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, causing concerns about the group’s lack of a suitable venue.

Hong Kong Ballet’s artistic director, Septime Webre, expressed relief at being able to disclose the news of the relocation. The city leader, John Lee Ka-chiu, described the Dancehouse as “the first dedicated venue for dance art in Hong Kong,” built to the highest international standards. The move will allow the ballet company to increase its performance weeks annually from seven to 10, potentially amplifying its impact.

Webre highlighted that the Dancehouse's enhanced access to the 1,450-seat grand theatre would enable the group to host more shows. The company will also benefit from 1,000 square meters of dedicated space at the centre, including a physiotherapy room, spacious changing and shower rooms, and three studios available 24 hours a day.

The collaboration between the ballet company and the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) involves co-investing in future productions, co-curating learning and participation programs, and exploring international partnerships.
