Google Nest Doorbells suffer mild identity crisis, start speaking with new accents

Google Nest Doorbells seem to be experiencing a minor identity crisis, as users in countries outside the US have reported their device announcements suddenly switching to an American accent. This peculiar issue appears to be unrelated to any other Google device interactions. One user shared a potential fix, suggesting that setting English (US) as a secondary language and then deleting it after a few seconds could resolve the problem.

However, Google Home has been plagued with its own set of issues recently, particularly with Voice Match struggling to accurately identify who's speaking.

As Google works on a solution for the Voice Match problem, another odd bug has emerged unexpectedly. This issue specifically targets the Nest Doorbell. The device supports up to 10 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese, and even allows users to select a preferred accent, such as US or UK English. While some users may prefer hearing accents other than their own, most people tend to choose a voice that uses the same accent they do.

The sudden change in accent on the Nest Doorbell raises the question of whether it would be jarring for an assistant to suddenly start talking in a user's language but with a different accent.
