Commanders' Sam Cosmi suffers late-game injury vs. Cowboys

The Washington Commanders experienced a series of setbacks early in the season due to injuries. Five-star Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a triceps tear on August 8, leaving the team without one of its key players. Johnny Newton, the defensive tackle, was sidelined with a torn pectoral, and Frankie Luvu, Jordan Magee, and Chig Okonkwo all left the lineup due to injuries in the opener against Philadelphia.

Magee was placed on injured reserve, while Luvu and Okonkwo were ruled out for the upcoming Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. After a strong performance against the Cowboys, left guard Chris Paul collided with quarterback Jayden Daniels during a play in the first half, causing Daniels to injure his left elbow. Later in the game, Brandon Coleman left the field with a finger injury, and Javon Kinlaw was helped off the field with a shoulder injury.

The team's situation worsened in the Commanders' final drive, when right guard Sam Cosmi was hit hard by running back Kaytron Allen and had to be helped off the field in significant pain. Cosmi had previously performed admirably in Week 1, defending Eagles star Jalen Carter. Rookie Matt Gulbin took over at right guard for Cosmi.
