CNN, MS NOW and Politico to file lawsuit against Trump's White House ban

Three prominent US media organizations - CNN, Politico, and MS NOW - have announced their intention to sue the Trump administration following their exclusion from the White House. President Donald Trump issued the ban on Friday, alleging that the three outlets were publishing fabricated or misleading information about his government. However, the publishers stated that their journalists were denied entry and had their identification badges confiscated when attempting to access the building on Saturday.

In a joint statement on Monday, the media organizations declared their intention to pursue legal action to safeguard their First Amendment rights and affirm the principle that the government cannot dictate the press's reporting or publishing decisions. The First Amendment prohibits the government from infringing upon the freedom of the press, a concept courts have generally understood to prevent the government from discriminating against media based on the content of their coverage.

The White House revoked the journalists' credentials without prior notice or due process, citing objection to their reporting, according to the statement. This action, if left unchecked, would pose a threat to press freedom and the public's access to independent journalism free from government interference.

Trump's ban on the three media outlets follows a pattern of legal action against various news organizations, including a lawsuit against the Associated Press (AP) for using the term "Gulf of Mexico" instead of "Gulf of America." The AP has since filed a lawsuit, which remains unresolved. Trump has been outspoken against news organizations and his administration has taken legal measures against multiple outlets, with some of these cases resulting in multimillion-dollar settlements.
