Chinese President Xi to visit US from Sept 23-25 for talks with Trump

China's President Xi Jinping is set to visit the United States from September 23 to 25 for talks with President Donald Trump, Beijing has confirmed. The two leaders will engage in a detailed exchange of views on major issues affecting China-US relations and global peace and development, according to a government statement. Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized that the visit aims to deepen the relationship of constructive strategic stability between China and the US, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, and manage differences appropriately.

The US had previously indicated that the meeting was imminent, with Trump expressing his intention to discuss a wide range of topics with Xi upon his arrival at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday. The summit is expected to tackle pressing concerns such as the ongoing trade war and the potential for military conflict over Taiwan. While both nations have maintained a tariff truce for nearly a year, they have yet to reach a lasting agreement.

Additionally, China's top negotiator for trade, Vice Premier He Lifeng, is currently in the US for discussions with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, focusing on creating a communication channel for AI-related concerns. The visit also comes at a time when China is seeking to avoid US sanctions against countries dealing with Iran, despite reports that Beijing provided intelligence for a strike on US troops.
