China confirms Xi to visit US this week for Trump talks

China has officially announced that President Xi Jinping will be traveling to the United States this week to meet with President Donald Trump for discussions. The visit is set to take place from Wednesday to Friday, according to a statement from Beijing's government. Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun revealed that the two leaders will engage in a "deep exchange of views on major issues concerning China-US relations and world peace and development."

Beijing aims to enhance the relationship between the two nations through increased dialogue and cooperation, while also addressing and managing any differences that may arise.

The US President is expected to personally greet Xi at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday, prior to their scheduled meetings the next day. Vice President of China was already present to greet Trump upon his arrival in Beijing for his state visit in May. During his flight to the US, President Trump stated that he intends to discuss "almost everything" with Xi.

The primary concerns for the talks include the ongoing trade war between the two countries and the looming threat of military confrontation over Taiwan. Although a tariff truce has been in effect for nearly a year, a lasting agreement has yet to be reached. Additionally, China's top negotiator for trade, Vice Premier He Lifeng, is currently in the United States for meetings with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, where they discussed establishing a communication channel for AI concerns.

China's relationship with Iran is also under scrutiny due to the ongoing war in Iran. As Beijing seeks to avoid US sanctions against countries dealing with Tehran, there have been reports that China provided intelligence for a strike on US troops.
