Ampang Jaya flash flood: Residents say water rose to waist level in two minutes

In Ampang Jaya, a flash flood struck during a downpour, causing water to rise to waist level in under two minutes, according to resident Thiyaga Rajan Shanmugam. The torrential rain began around 3:30pm, with waters accelerating around 4pm. The flash flood inundated Thiyaga's house and 11 others along Lorong Kolam Ayer Lama A, damaging property.

He managed to save his car but lost all furniture and electrical appliances, estimating losses over RM100,000. Thiyaga suggested fallen timber may have blocked the natural drainage flow. Another resident, Nazrul Afiq, also in his 40s, was equally shocked by the rapid water level rise, noting this was the first time he witnessed such high waters.

He blamed two nearby floodgates for poor drainage management during downpours, claiming debris from uncleared trees contributed to the flooding. A nearby school's perimeter wall also collapsed due to floodwaters. Local authorities arrived to assist with debris clearance and drain unclogging, while residents began cleanup efforts.
