12 killed in Plateau attacks

At least 12 people were killed in a series of attacks across Plateau State, Nigeria, between Saturday night and Sunday. The incidents occurred in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Mangu local government areas, causing tension in the affected communities. Security forces have been deployed to restore order.

Five victims were passengers traveling from Gana-Ropp in Barkin Ladi to Mangu when they were attacked around 7:30pm on Saturday. Four passengers and the driver were killed; one survivor was among the four miners. The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Bulus Dabit, called for the arrest of those responsible and urged authorities to enhance security in vulnerable communities.

Two individuals, including a pastor, were reportedly killed while en route to church in Barkin Ladi. A woman was killed at Baten Wereng in Riyom Local Government Area, and another person died at Ratyidi in Fan District. Three herders were killed on Sunday in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, while two others sustained injuries.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) confirmed the herders' deaths, stating that the incident occurred when gunmen attacked their vehicle carrying cattle from Bokkos to Jos South. MACBAN leadership called on members to remain calm and allow security agencies to investigate the attacks.

Local community leaders condemned the killings, emphasizing the need for increased security presence in the affected areas.
