US-Greenland deal reaffirms 'Danish sovereignty' - Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron announced a deal between the United States, Denmark, and Greenland that reaffirms Danish sovereignty over the Arctic territory. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen stated that the agreement respects Denmark's red lines and is important in light of the changed security situation. Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen emphasized that the deal recognizes Greenland's interests and strengthens its security.

While some Greenland residents expressed mixed feelings about the US and Trump's presence, Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen highlighted that the agreement recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Greenlandic people's right to self-determination. The US President Donald Trump hailed the deal as an "Infinite Life" Agreement, stating that no adversary can have a base, military presence, or sensitive investments in Greenland without the US' express written approval.

However, Danish commentators noted that under a 1951 defense pact updated in 2004, the US was already able to increase its military presence in Greenland with prior notice.
