Danish foreign minister hopes Greenland deal will end uncertainty

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen expressed optimism on Saturday about a breakthrough in the dispute with Washington over Greenland, which could end months of uncertainty. The agreement, expected to be signed next week, aims to provide stability and strengthen security in the Arctic and North Atlantic, benefiting NATO and Europe while respecting Denmark's "red lines."

US President Donald Trump claimed the deal grants permanent US control over security and any other needs in Greenland, but the Danish government clarified that the agreement would not entail any costs for Washington. Trump also stated that no adversary could establish a base or military presence in Greenland without Washington's approval.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed satisfaction with the potential agreement, while Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen emphasized its recognition of Greenland's sovereignty and self-determination rights.
