PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi under investigation in France for conflict of interest

Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) Qatari president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, is currently under investigation in France for potential conflicts of interest. The preliminary probe, conducted by the Paris prosecutors, is connected to his dual roles as head of both PSG and the beIN Media Group. The investigation stems from a meeting regarding broadcasting rights with football league representatives in July 2024, as confirmed by the prosecutor's office, following a report in L'Equipe sports newspaper.

Al-Khelaifi, who has been leading the French Ligue 1 champions since their 2011 takeover by Qatar Sports Investments, has a history of legal cases. He has consistently maintained his innocence in all allegations, with his lawyer stating that his client has always acted independently, impartially, and objectively. The latest investigation was initiated in April after receiving information from the anti-graft Anticor association, and it is now being handled by the anti-corruption and finance police.

In February 2025, al-Khelaifi was also charged with complicity in abuse of power related to shareholder voting at a company, according to a source close to the case. Notably, previous charges against him for alleged corruption over Qatar's bids for the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships were dismissed by France's Court of Cassation in mid-February 2023. The court ruled that French justice did not have the authority to prosecute him in those cases.
