La Liga: Mourinho, Simeone renew old rivalry in Madrid derby

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are set to face off in a highly anticipated Madrid derby, both teams aiming to secure crucial points in the Spanish top division. The match, taking place at the Metropolitano Stadium, will be the last five games of the season before an international break.

This particular derby holds a special significance as it reunites two charismatic managers, Diego Simeone and Jose Mourinho, who have a long-standing rivalry. Their first rivalry as rival managers occurred in 2012, when Mourinho led Real to victory in a derby at Atletico's former home, the Vicente Calderon Stadium. Since then, Mourinho has triumphed in all three Madrid derbies against Simeone, while the Argentine manager's side has only won once, in the 2013 Copa del Rey final.

The Portuguese manager believes that Real Madrid is currently better at transitioning during the game, often relying on their star players, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. Simeone, on the other hand, emphasizes the importance of defensively reading the game and preventing turnovers to stifle their opponents' speed. Both managers have managed their respective teams in over 800 games since taking charge, with Simeone in charge of Atletico for more than a decade.
