Manuel Elvira blows chance for first win after brutal bunker blunder

Manuel Elvira, the 30-year-old Spaniard, was on the verge of his first win on the DP World Tour at the BMW PGA Championship. Despite leading the 54-hole event, a bunker mistake proved costly. After a brilliant 71-hole performance, Elvira bogeyed the first hole, reclaimed the lead, and continued to climb the leaderboard with birdies at holes 10 and 12.

However, a bogey at the 14th hole, followed by a missed eagle putt at the 17th, saw Spaun stretch ahead and force Elvira into a four-way tie for second place. Elvira's misstep in the 17th led to a 111-yard bunker shot, with the resulting poor approach leaving him six feet from the cup. Despite the disappointment, Elvira recognized it as his best finish at the DP World Tour's biggest event.
