Lagos Contemporary Circus Festival Set for October

The National Theatre in Lagos is set to host the ‘Circus in Motion: The Lagos Contemporary Circus Festival 2026’ from October 3rd to 4th, marking Nigeria’s inaugural major contemporary circus event. The two-day extravaganza will convert the prestigious Iganmu cultural hub into a stage for high-flying acrobatics, innovative dance performances, and other avant-garde theatrics.

Organized by the National Theatre in partnership with international art collectives, this festival aims to merge West African performance art with global circus traditions.

Expect a blend of high-wire acts, aerial silks, contortionism, and illusion, all performed to live drumming and modern Afrobeat music. Local troupes, including acrobats trained across Lagos, will perform alongside international artists, creating a unique cross-cultural spectacle. Highlights include synchronized drop routines high above the stage floor, live soundscapes featuring traditional talking drums and contemporary jazz, and giant stilt-walkers, fire-spinners, and ground-level comedy acts.

The festival will draw thousands of art enthusiasts, families, and international tourists to Lagos’ National Theatre. By presenting ‘Circus in Motion,’ the National Theatre underscores its commitment to expanding Lagos’ performing arts landscape, positioning the city as a leader for avant-garde circus arts in West Africa.
