Loke’s move inconsistent with DAP’s stance on Najib, says lawyer

Prominent lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla has criticized the DAP's decision to have only secretary-general Loke Siew Fook resign from the Cabinet over Najib Razak's conditional pardon, stating it is inconsistent with the party's previously expressed views. In a podcast, Haniff argued that if the DAP were sincere about its stance, all DAP members of the Cabinet should resign, as their resignation would not equate to withdrawing support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Loe's resignation as transport minister was announced, but DAP would remain in the government with other ministers staying in the Cabinet. Haniff singled out housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, alleging he should have been among the first to resign due to his previous public disagreements with Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh over the Najib pardon.

Haniff emphasized that political leaders should honor their public promises, but an unnamed DAP leader reportedly said Nga had offered to resign during a DAP central executive committee meeting but was persuaded by Loke to stay in the Cabinet.
