Velez-Malaga keeps terrace last orders at 2am through San Miguel Fair

Residents of Velez-Malaga can now enjoy their nights out a little later, as bar and restaurant terraces are granted an extra fortnight to stay open until 2am, coinciding with the San Miguel Fair. Commerce councillor Beatriz Galvez explained that the extended hours align with the fair, which runs from September 29 to October 4. Beatriz Galvez stated that the aim is to encourage more spending and patronage during this period.

Javier Arcas, president of the Torre del Mar traders’ group ACET, emphasized the necessity of the extension, allowing businesses to make the most of the pleasant evenings. Business associations had previously requested the additional time. The council, along with traders, plans to continue discussions to ensure that any future regulations cater to the needs of the local shops and hospitality sector.

Should a street become excessively noisy, it could revert to its original closing time. Police authorities will uphold the civismo rules regarding alcohol sales and consumption beyond licensed areas and permitted terraces. The San Miguel Fair, which took place last year, drew large crowds and boosted local businesses; similar events are scheduled for this year.

Night buses previously operated between Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar during August and may resume if there is demand during the fair.
