KP CM Afridi blames deteriorating security situation on ‘failed’ foreign policy

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated on Saturday that the deteriorating security situation in the nation was a consequence of a failed foreign policy that has been in effect for the past 22 years. During a visit to Kohat, he urged the continuation of changing such policies when they do not generate desired outcomes.

The CM met with the families of the police and civilians who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on the Police Lines and paid homage to the police, counter-terrorism department, Special Branch, Rescue 1122, doctors, district administration, and the people of Kohat for their bravery and resilience. Afridi expressed sympathy for the families of police officials and civilians who perished during the 20-hour operation against terrorists.

He emphasized that the police personnel and civilians who faced terrorists made the ultimate sacrifice for the protection of the nation. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has been battling terrorism since 2004, during which it has suffered over 80,000 casualties. The chief minister criticized the federal government's decision to close the Afghan border, which has led to a loss of more than Rs8 billion in the province's economy during the previous financial year.

He further mentioned that the province might face further economic losses in the current financial year. Afridi highlighted that the sacrifices made by the people and police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fight against terrorism have not been acknowledged, and the imposed narrative incorrectly labels them as terrorists while claiming no threat from India.

The CM called upon the federal government and institutions to focus on addressing the challenge of terrorism rather than suppressing PTI's political activities. Afridi addressed the youth, people, and police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging them to stand up for themselves and their province. He announced additional financial aid for the families of those martyred in the incident who didn't fall under the government's Shuhada Package.

The chief minister also announced the provision of modern medical equipment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Kohat and the establishment of a police station for the Special Branch in Kohat. Afridi pledged to improve patient care at the Kohat Police Hospital and address the shortage of police personnel.
