King's prerogative on Najib's pardon must not be questioned, says Khaled

Kota Tinggi: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's conditional pardon, given to him by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, should not be questioned, asserts Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. Pardons are not unprecedented in the country's legal history, as numerous cases involving death or life sentences have been pardoned without controversy, Khaled stated.

Recognizing the power vested in the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Khaled emphasized that it must not be contested by any party. He added that this decision should not be associated with attempts to unify Malay political parties, which are focused on the upcoming elections, as Malay political influence appears to be waning. Khaled clarified that the issue of Najib's release or not is separate from Malay unity.

He also mentioned the Umno-led Tabung Solidariti Najib Razak, which aims to provide support, highlighting that RM50 million is a significant sum. Although the fund may not reach its target, it reflects the support provided to Najib. Last Friday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, granted a conditional pardon to Najib, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a RM50 million fine. So far, the solidarity fund has raised RM1 million as of 9.30am yesterday.
