Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized that the government's formation is solely focused on defending the monarchy, according to the King Bersemi system, state institutions and legislation. Speaking at the Selangor International Trade Centre's (SITC) Reformist Reformers Reunion Tea Party, Anwar stressed that the government's formation is clear that the king's position needs to be defended based on the King Bersemi system, state institutions and laws.

He said, "Our formation, King Bersemi, aligns with state institutions and laws, and the king remains defended ... not the party that determines who the king is." Anwar added that victory in elections cannot be used as a reason to challenge the position of the monarchy, as the mandate given by the people is not for changing the royal system.

"Did you mention winning the election and calling it 'we will win the crown' anywhere?" he asked. "There isn't," he said. "People give you support to defend the royal system. (When) you win, you lift the existing king. He added, any dispute related to the royal institution needs to be resolved according to the law and the established channels, not through media or political parties.

Though the Prime Minister did not mention it specifically, it is understood that he was referring to the controversy surrounding the Negeri Sembilan royal institution. On September 16, the Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri (exco) dominated by Umno's MP representatives declared the proclamation of retiring Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir on April 19 as valid, thus confirming Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as the new Yang Di Pertuan Besar.

The next day, the Negeri Sembilan Judicial and Law Council (DKU) upheld the exco's decision, arguing that the retirement of Tuanku Muhriz did not have legal consequences as it was outside the jurisdiction of the state government.
