Islamabad police move into action against PTI ahead of Sept 27 protest

Islamabad police have apprehended four activists and workers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political party in anticipation of their planned protest on September 27. A police spokesperson disclosed that the individuals were apprehended under various charges in accordance with a complaint lodged by a sub-inspector. The charges include attempted murder, criminal intimidation, rioting with deadly weapons, and obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties.

Authorities received intelligence that the PTI members were convening a meeting at a property dealer's office in E-16 area in relation to the Sept 27 demonstration. Consequently, a police team was deployed for the raid and the arrests. The police alleged that the PTI attendees resorted to violent tactics during the raid, attacking the officers, tearing their uniforms, and holding them captive.

The police and capital administration have initiated preparations to counter the PTI's nationwide protest. A meeting was convened at the Central Police Office in Islamabad to assess security measures and devise a strategy to preempt the protest. During the meeting, all relevant officers discussed the pertinent matters in detail.

In line with the existing plan, the Islamabad police are actively gathering intelligence regarding the protest, including the PTI's preparations, activities of its leaders, workers, and activists. Vigilance and intelligence are heightened at hotels, inns, bus terminals, and other locations where potential contractors could provide meals, water, lodging, and transportation for the protesters.

Special Branch and Counter Terrorism Department intelligence units are also monitoring the leaders, activists, and workers of the PTI and collecting information about them. Surveillance is also intensifying around the residences and other places frequented by these individuals to prevent their apprehension.
