Capital police move into action against PTI

Islamabad witnessed the capital police taking action against four PTI activists and workers ahead of the party's planned September 27 protest. According to a police officer, the activists were arrested under multiple charges stemming from a complaint lodged by a sub-inspector. The charges included murder attempt, criminal intimidation, rioting, and obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties.

The police identified the activists as holding a meeting in connection with the upcoming protest at a property dealer's office in the E-16 area. Upon raiding the meeting venue, the police claimed that the workers tortured them, tore their uniforms, and took them hostage.

In response to the arrests, the police have begun preparations to counter the PTI's countrywide protest. A meeting was held at the Central Police Office Islamabad to review security arrangements and formulate a plan to prevent the protest. The meeting involved all concerned officers from various police departments. To counter the protest, the police have been collecting information on the party's activities, preparations, and gatherings of its leaders, workers, and activists.

Vigilance and intelligence were heightened at guest houses, inns, bus terminals, and potential contractors who could provide food, water, lodging, and transportation for the protesters. The intelligence wings of the police, including the Special Branch and Counter Terrorism Department, are also monitoring the leaders, activists, and workers of the PTI, whose details are available to them.

Surveillance is also in place around the residences and other locations frequented by the PTI leaders, activists, and workers to avoid their arrest.
