ICE agent wounds man in Austin, Texas, shooting: Officials

On Sunday, September 20, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Austin, Texas, shot a man in the torso, according to city officials. The man was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. The incident occurred during a brief foot pursuit shortly before 1pm local time. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed the details of the pursuit. ICE, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Texas Department of Public Safety have not yet provided comments on the matter.

City officials have not disclosed the identity of the man who was shot, nor the identity of the ICE agent involved. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, a Democrat, called for the involvement of city police and the Texas Rangers in the investigation, expressing concern about the credibility of ICE conducting its own investigation. Watson, along with US Representative Greg Casar, a Texas Democrat, stated that the city has seen an increase in ICE's presence in Austin, leading to calls for the agency to leave before there is another incident.
