Austin ICE-involved shooting: What happened in Texas today? Mayor and police chief give update on man's condition

On Sunday afternoon, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and wounded a man in Austin, Texas, the capital of the state. The incident occurred on the north side of the city. The victim was shot once in the torso and was subsequently taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis provided an update on the situation at a news conference alongside Mayor Kirk Watson and other officials.

According to local media, a dark blue Toyota Corolla was found parked under an overpass near the scene, displaying damage to its passenger-side door and bullet holes. Davis clarified that Austin police officers were not involved in the operation or the shooting. She also mentioned that the department's special investigation unit was present at the scene.

The mayor expressed his desire for the city's police department to be included in the investigation, stating that this would provide "clear, third-party eyes" to the process. Watson believed it would be inappropriate for ICE to conduct the investigation alone.
