Fuel relief scheme: Govt removes ownership condition for motorcycles, rickshaws

Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar announced on Sunday that the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's Special Fuel Relief Scheme will now include motorcycles, rickshaws, and Qingqis registered since January 1, 2006, without requiring proof of ownership. At a news conference in Islamabad, Tarar stated that the scheme has already registered over 2.2 million individuals, with 92% of them being motorcycle, Qingqi, and rickshaw users.

The government has waived SMS charges for registration and removed the limit of five liters of petrol per token, providing motorcycle, Qingqi, and rickshaw users with four tokens per month. Vehicles up to 800cc will receive a discount of Rs100 per liter on 10 liters of petrol every ten days. More than 557,000 registrations were completed in a single day, while 1.9 million tokens have been issued so far.

Tarar informed that the scheme receives real-time updates from the Prime Minister and will make further improvements based on public feedback. Around 25 million motorcycles are registered in Pakistan, and their users will benefit from the scheme. Tarar also addressed the law-and-order situation, stating that the Islamabad High Court has issued orders to prevent road blockades and public movement disruption in Islamabad.

The administration will ensure smooth public movement, and no violent group will enter the federal capital territory.
