Fuel relief scheme: Govt removes ownership condition for motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis

Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar announced on Sunday that motorcycles, rickshaws, and Qingqis registered after January 1, 2006, are eligible for the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme. Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar confirmed that the ownership condition has been removed for users of these vehicles.

Over 2.2 million people have registered under the scheme, with 92% of them being motorcycle, Qingqi, and rickshaw owners. The SMS registration fee has been waived, and the limit of five liters of petrol per token has been lifted. Motorcycle, Qingqi, and rickshaw users will receive four tokens per month, while vehicles up to 800cc will get a discount of Rs100 per liter on 10 liters of petrol every 10 days.

Registration facilities are available at all petrol stations, and regular instructions are being issued to fuel stations. Over 557,000 registrations were completed in a single day, and 1.9 million tokens have been issued so far. Tarar said the Prime Minister is kept informed about the scheme in real-time, and further improvements will be made based on public feedback.

The government introduced the scheme as a targeted subsidy for those most in need. Around 25 million motorcycles are registered in Pakistan, and their users will benefit from the relief. Tarar mentioned that complaints regarding the scheme are being addressed, and an awareness campaign is underway to assist the public. The Islamabad High Court has issued orders regarding road blockades and disruption of public movement, and the administration will ensure that public movement is not hindered in Islamabad.

The government will not allow violent groups to enter the federal capital territory, Tarar emphasized.
