The arrest came after the unit received credible information about a woman and a man allegedly selling fake currency near Metro Cinema in Vasudev Balwant Phadke Chowk, Mumbai on September 6.
The duo were purportedly exchanging ₹2 lakh worth of counterfeit ₹500 notes for ₹1 lakh in genuine cash. In response, a trap was set by a police team from Unit-2, resulting in the detainment of a woman with 270 counterfeit ₹500 notes. The woman allegedly confessed to obtaining the fake notes from the man. Technical investigation led the police to the area near Kurla railway station, where they apprehended the man and recovered 1,858 counterfeit ₹500 notes from his possession.
The total value of the seized counterfeit notes amounts to ₹10.64 lakh. The case has been registered under Sections 178, 180, 61(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, at Azad Maidan Police Station.
