Former Kogi governor Ibrahim Idris dies at 77

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has declared a three-day period of mourning to honor the late former governor of the state, Ibrahim Idris, who passed away recently. In a statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja through the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, Ododo expressed deep sorrow over the death, describing it as a significant loss to both Kogi State and Nigeria.

The governor had previously visited the residence of Idris, offering condolences to the family and paying tribute to his former colleague.

Idris, who served as governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2011, was remembered by Ododo for his substantial contributions to the development of the state during his tenure. These contributions encompassed critical areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other vital sectors. The governor emphasized that the impact of Idris' leadership would continue to be an integral part of Kogi State's developmental history.

Addressing the Idris family, Ododo urged them to find solace in the enduring memories of their beloved former governor and the positive influence he had on countless lives. He also conveyed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, associates, and everyone who mourns the loss of Ibrahim Idris. In his statement, Ododo prayed for the deceased to be forgiven for any shortcomings, granted eternal peace in Jannah, and for the strength for the Idris family and the people of Kogi State to endure this irreparable loss.

The three-day mourning period will be observed across government offices and designated public institutions in Kogi State, with the national flag and the state flag flown at half-mast during this time. The Kogi State Government has taken full responsibility for all burial expenses and will ensure the proper arrangements are made to honor the late former governor as befits his significant contributions to the state.
