Bhayandar Ganesh Idol Controversy: Civic Body Faces Anger After Video Allegedly Shows Idols Dumped Into Creek From Artificial Pond

Bhayandar residents have been furious after a video emerged allegedly showing Ganesh idols immersed in an artificial pond being directly dumped into the creek. The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation had constructed an artificial immersion pond near Retibandar creek in Ghodbunder village for the purpose of idol immersion during Ganesh festival. However, the video has raised alarms among environmentalists and citizens alike.

According to the report, contract sanitation workers are said to have been responsible for throwing the idols into the creek. The incident was recorded on a mobile phone by a concerned citizen on a Friday afternoon and subsequently shared on social media platforms. The report further states that popping idols are not allowed to be immersed in natural water bodies, yet the idols from the artificial pond were reportedly being dumped into the creek.

Furthermore, it has been alleged that excavation work was carried out in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) area at the artificial pond site without the required permissions. A complaint has reportedly been lodged with the police against the municipal employees involved. Environmental activists and citizens have called for stern action against the culprits.
