At least two dead, four injured after electrocution near Ganesh pandal in Mumbai

At least two individuals lost their lives and four others were injured in an electrocution incident that occurred near a Ganesh pandal in Mumbai's Lalbaug area on Sunday morning. The tragic event transpired at around 2:20 a.m. following a short circuit near the entrance gate of the Mahaganpati Utsav Mandal, where a Ganesh festival had been ongoing.

A temporary drinking water and cold drink stall had been set up close to the pandal entrance, and it was at this location that the short circuit took place, resulting in electrical current being detected.

Firefighters promptly switched off the power supply at the site and cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure. Six victims were transported to nearby hospitals, where two of them were pronounced dead upon arrival. Among the deceased was an eight-year-old girl, identified as Raghini Ghanshyam Yadav, who was brought to Masina Hospital in Byculla.

The other four injured individuals were taken to Global Hospital in Parel and Masina Hospital, with varying degrees of criticality. Three of the injured, Kiran Akbar Naik, Tanvi Naresh Hande, and Sahil Sandip Tare, all aged 19, are presently undergoing treatment at the hospitals with stable conditions. Sujata, a 33-year-old woman, succumbed to her injuries at Global Hospital, while Ruhi Singh, a 12-year-old girl, remains critically injured and has been admitted to the intensive care unit.

The Kalachowki police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the short circuit.
