Asian Games: India win first medal, clinch women’s 10m air rifle team silver

India secured their first medal at the 2026 Asian Games by winning silver in the women's 10m Air rifle event on Sunday. Sonam Maskar, Elavenil Valarivan, and Vidarsa Vinod K led the Indian team to a total score of 1904.2, just 0.9 points behind the gold medal-winning Chinese team. Japan finished third with 1897.1 points. However, Korea was close to medal contention until the very end, as Cho Eunbeyol had a poor performance in her final series.

Sonam topped the Indian score with 634.1 points, placing her fourth in the individual qualification, while Olympian Elavenil secured seventh place with 633.5 points. Both shooters advanced to the eight-shooter final, which took place later in the day. China's combined score of 1904.2 in the women's 10m air rifle broke the previous world record, set by a Chinese trio at the 2025 Asian Championships.
