APC’s bye-election victories significant ahead of 2027 – Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has hailed the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s resounding success in four out of five recent bye-elections across three geopolitical regions as highly significant as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections. Keyamo shared his views on the matter through a social media post on Sunday, following the results of the legislative bye-elections held on Saturday.

The APC emerged victorious in Kano State, located in the North-West geopolitical zone, as well as in Bauchi and Gombe states, both situated in the North-East. The party also secured a win in Delta State, found in the South-South region. However, the APC suffered a setback in Sakwa State, which is part of Bauchi State, losing the constituency seat to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

In Kano, APC candidate Hussaini Yusuf Datti triumphed in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency byelection, securing 22,890 votes. Meanwhile, in Bauchi, APC candidate Yakubu Ali won the Disina State Constituency election with a margin of 5,846 votes. The APC also won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, with their candidate, Kallamu Usman MaiJama'a, receiving 41,121 votes.

In Delta State, APC candidate Okolosi Ator emerged triumphant in the Udu State Constituency seat, garnering 8,724 votes. Conversely, the APM secured the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi with 8,515 votes.

Keyamo emphasized the widespread spread of the APC's victories across these three regions as a crucial factor leading up to the 2027 general elections. Furthermore, the minister referred to a constitutional requirement stipulating that a presidential candidate must accumulate at least 25% of the votes in two-thirds of the federation's states and the Federal Capital Territory. This provision takes into account Nigeria's diverse nature.

The minister stated that he intends to keep his "gunpowder" for now and promised a more comprehensive analysis of this significant aspect regarding presidential elections, which will be released on January 19th or 20th, 2027.
