1,200km from home, stranger and ChatGPT help lost pilgrim return

Dubai, India: An 87-year-old pilgrim from Punjab named Chaman Lal became lost during his journey to Amritsar after suffering from memory issues related to aging. Stranded more than 1,200 kilometers away in Bihar, he had no way of finding his way back home, speaking only Punjabi and not remembering any other helpful details. Chaman's grandson, Sukhchain Singh, and a resident of Fatehgarh Gujran village in Ludhiana, Neeraj, came to his rescue.

Neeraj, recognizing the village name from Chaman's description, took it upon himself to help the elderly man return to his family. For four days, Neeraj looked after Chaman, providing him with food and shelter while they tried to locate his hometown. Neeraj used online searches and the ChatGPT AI tool to track down the village's location, eventually discovering it was near Machhiwara Sahib in Punjab's Ludhiana district.

With this information, Neeraj began showing Chaman's photo to locals in Gaya, eventually leading to a resident named Master Krishan Lal recognizing the elderly man as his grandfather. Chaman's family were overjoyed to receive news of his safe return after such an arduous journey. Neeraj expressed gratitude for having the opportunity to care for Chaman, asserting that it had become a personal responsibility once he witnessed the elder man's distress.
