“Your vehicle will be seized” – Police warn vehicle owners over drug trafficking

The Upper West Regional Police Command has issued a stern warning to commercial vehicle owners in the region, stating that their vehicles could be seized if found to have been used for transporting illegal drugs. DCOP Francis Yiribaare, the Regional Police Commander, emphasized the importance of caution and urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are not used for drug trafficking.

He warned that if a vehicle is suspected of being connected to such activities, the police can apply for its forfeiture. Yiribaare added that vehicle owners must be very careful, as the law will catch up with them. The warning came after the arrest of two individuals in Wa, who were connected to a suspected drug trafficking case.

Forensic examination of 192 wraps confirmed the presence of cocaine, and the suspects are currently on remand, expected to reappear in court on October 9, 2026. This seizure marks the first of its kind in the Upper West Region, according to Yiribaare, who also stated that the police are investigating whether it signals a new dimension of drug trafficking in the area.

The police are intensifying intelligence-led operations to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the trade. Yiribaare stressed that drug trafficking is a serious offense and emphasized that anyone found culpable will be dealt with according to law.
