Wa East Assembly hands over completed 6-unit classroom block abandoned since 2016 at Jeyiri

The Wa East District Assembly in Ghana has completed and handed over a six-unit classroom block to the chiefs and people of Jeyiri, resolving a decade-long infrastructure crisis in the farming community. Originally funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund in 2016, construction stalled after the 2016 general elections until the current administration revived it using District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocations.

Wa East District Chief Executive Adamu Sayibu emphasized the importance of the project as part of presidential directives to renovate educational infrastructure nationwide. The district had inherited 43 abandoned projects under the Northern Development Authority and four under GETFund, with this facility being a personal project of Sayibu's team.

The completed block includes a staff common room and an ICT laboratory or library, triggering a broader restructuring of Jeyiri's basic education stream. However, the school faces a severe teacher shortage, with only three teachers managing six classrooms and two KG classes. The Deputy Director of Administration and Finance at the Wa East GES Directorate, Tahiru Mohammed, acknowledged the staffing deficit and pledged immediate administrative action to address the issue.

The Assembly Member for Jeyiri and Chief of Sagu, Iddi Ngmengu Abdulai, expressed gratitude to the assembly and central government for the project, sharing a personal story of how a lack of classrooms once forced him to leave his hometown for basic education. District Engineer Fatau Mumuni confirmed that all civil works, including roofing, electrical wiring, and finishing, were fully executed, with electricity meter installation expected soon.
