Warner Bros. Blocked The Perfect Powerpuff Girls/Batman: The Animated Series Crossover

The Powerpuff Girls, a staple of Cartoon Network, was on the verge of a perfect crossover with Batman: The Animated Series. However, this unlikely alliance never materialized, leaving fans to wonder what could have been. Craig McCracken, the creator of The Powerpuff Girls, revealed that he had envisioned a storyline where the Joker wreaked havoc in Townsville, causing the Mayor to try and thwart the Girls from stopping him.

This idea was to feature character designs from Batman: The Animated Series and Mark Hamill reprising his role as the Joker. Unfortunately, Warner Brothers decided against it, possibly due to concerns over the different tones of the two series. The Batman villain was later assigned to Justice League episodes instead. Despite this unfortunate missed opportunity, The Powerpuff Girls did pay tribute to the Batman in various other episodes, including Stuck Up, Up, and Away, Slave the Day, and Equal Fights.

Interestingly, the Boys eventually found their way to the DC Universe in the 2016 episode TTG v PPG of Teen Titans Go!. While a crossover with the Dark Knight himself was never to be, the mature, more serious tone of Batman: The Animated Series may have been a better fit for the Girls' superhero adventures.
