Sheikha Al Mayassa highlights Qatar-Latin America cultural exchange at MALBA event

Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, was present at the 25th anniversary celebrations of Argentina's Museum of Latin American Art (MALBA) in Buenos Aires. She engaged in a discussion with Glenn Lowry, the former director of New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), focusing on cultural diplomacy and the role museums play in fostering connections between people.

MALBA, established in 2001 by Argentine businessman and collector Eduardo Costantini, is home to a collection of 20th-century Latin American art. The museum's holdings include works by renowned artists such as Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Antonio Berni, Wifredo Lam, and Xul Solar. Over the years, MALBA has evolved into a leading institution for modern and contemporary art, featuring touring exhibitions, film programs, and educational initiatives.

This year marked the museum's 25th anniversary, drawing cultural figures from around the world. Sheikha Al Mayassa's visit was part of the festivities, which also included the Qatar-Argentina-Chile 2025 Year of Culture. Additionally, the Qatar Museums-hosted Latino Americano exhibition in Doha last year invited audiences to delve into the richness of modern and contemporary Latin American art.

Sheikha Al Mayassa emphasized that the anniversary held particular significance due to the aforementioned Year of Culture and the LATINO Americano exhibition. She highlighted that Qatar Museums continues to build upon these connections and strengthen cultural exchange between the two regions.
