[UPDATED] MACC orders Azeez, family to declare assets within a month

Former Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and his family have been instructed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to disclose their assets. MACC chief Abd Halim Aman announced that notices for asset declaration have been served on Azeez and his immediate family members, including his children, according to Kosmo.

They are given one month to declare their assets, with the possibility of an extension if more time is needed. MACC is investigating allegations that Azeez abused his position as TH chairman to gain personal benefits, including a chairmanship position and a BMW 7 Series car, which reportedly earned him an annual salary of RM690,000.

Azeez was previously charged in 2019 for accepting RM5.2 million in bribes related to road projects in Perak and Kedah, as well as 10 counts of money laundering involving RM13.9 million. However, the charges were quashed in August 2022, and Azeez was later acquitted of all corruption charges in December of the same year. The Attorney-General's Chambers stated that there was insufficient evidence to support the corruption case against Azeez after further investigations by MACC.
