‘Tight slap on his face’: BJP targets Rahul Gandhi after ABVP's big win in DUSU elections

On Saturday, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated ABVP (All India Students Federation) secured a significant victory in the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, while the Congress party's NSUI (National Students Union of India) suffered a major setback, failing to secure any top posts. ABVP's Yash Dabas emerged victorious as president, winning 24,576 votes, with two other ABVP candidates clinching top positions.

Deepanshu Shokeen, an independent candidate, was denied a ticket to the vice-president post by the NSUI. The NSUI saw its candidates lose the presidency and joint secretary positions by narrow margins.

The BJP, under the leadership of its national media co-convener Sidharth Yadav, capitalized on the ABVP's win, accusing the Congress of attempting to manipulate student politics with a "politics of falsehood and negative propaganda." Yadav declared the DUSU election results as a "tight slap on his face" for Rahul Gandhi and his party, stating that the victory reflects the rejection of the pro-India ideology by the student body.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also criticized Rahul Gandhi, stating that despite his attempts to influence the student elections using the "Jhooth ki Goonj" (echo of lies) campaign, the Gen Z population had chosen the ideology of national interest. The BJP and the opposition parties seem to be using the DUSU election results to discredit Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, framing it as a reflection of students' discontent with their political narrative.
