Rajiv Gandhi assassination cited in police security note for Rahul’s Indore event

Police have imposed 31 security conditions on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme in Indore, citing the Verma Commission report on the security lapses surrounding former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination in 1991. The Verma Commission found that the primary reason for the 1991 security breakdown was the organisers' "irresponsible attitude."

Coaching centres and hostel operators in Indore are required to sign a "Self Certificate for Safety" if their students participate in the event. The conditions include detailed information about the expected crowd, vehicle specifics, and venue arrangements. The police have also mandated six entry gates and eight exit gates, as well as metal detector checks. Congress city president Chintu Choukse accused the ruling BJP of trying to disrupt the event.
