Three suspected robbers killed, two officers injured as police team comes under fire in Tilly Forest

On a recent operation in Tilly Forest, members of the Upper East Regional Police Command encountered armed robbery suspects and came under fire. As a result, three suspects were killed and two police officers were injured. The suspects had led investigators to a location where they claimed the gang had hidden firearms. The officers identified as Amadu Apiiga, 33, Philip Vokbilla, 20, and Bilal Adabode, alias Sulley, were taken to the hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Additional individuals believed to have been wounded fled the scene. This operation follows the dismantling of a suspected gang involved in attacks on motorbike riders and mobile money vendors in various communities. The gang has also been linked to the killing of a police officer during a robbery at Zebilla on February 8, 2026.

The police recovered two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, two pistols, 9mm ammunition, BB cartridges, cutlasses, scooters, boots, a motorbike number plate, and mobile phones. Six other suspects remain in custody and are aiding the investigation. The command urges the public to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or provide information that could help the investigation.
