3 suspects shot dead, 2 officers injured in Tilly Forest robbery follow-up operation

Three suspects were shot dead and two police officers were injured during a follow-up operation by the Upper East Regional Police Command in Tilly Forest. The operation aimed to retrieve weapons allegedly concealed by a robbery gang previously dismantled, linked to attacks on motorbike riders and mobile money vendors in several communities.

The suspects, Amadu Apiiga, 33; Philip Vokbilla, 20; and Bilal Adabode, alias Sulley, led investigators to a location where firearms were supposedly hidden. Upon arrival, the police came under gunfire, resulting in injuries to the suspects. They were transported to a hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival. Other wounded individuals fled the scene.

The police recovered two locally made single-barrel guns, two pistols, ammunition, sharp tools, scooters, boots, a motorbike number plate, and two mobile phones. The suspects were also linked to the 2026 killing of a police officer during a robbery. Six other gang members remain in custody and are cooperating with the investigation.

The police urge the public to report any individuals with gunshot wounds or provide information to assist in their ongoing efforts to uncover the gang's full extent of activities and bring other suspects to justice.
