APM condemns death of 37 Nigerians in NSCDC custody, demands probe

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has denounced the reported deaths of 37 Nigerians while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State. The party demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, particularly allegations that 66 detainees were kept in a single cell for over two days.

Yusuf Abubakar, the APM's National Publicity Secretary, stated that the avoidable deaths of the citizens in inhumane conditions highlighted the lack of concern from the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration for human lives. The APM rejected the explanation that the victims were illegal miners who died from a suspected disease outbreak, arguing that the explanation did not address the reports about the poor conditions they were held in.

The party condemned the use of excessive heat and an unidentified substance against the detainees, as well as the alleged use of ammunition and tear gas by security forces against protesters. They emphasized the need for a prompt, open, and transparent investigation into the incident and the protection of citizens' rights, regardless of their detention circumstances.
