Slovak PM says some in West seek war between Russia and Nato

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico warned on Saturday that Western politicians are attempting to ignite a conflict between NATO and Russia. Fico, who has maintained warm relations with Russia and has refused military aid for Ukraine, believes Europe is on the brink of a large-scale war stemming from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In a video message, Fico stated, "We face a mortal danger" as the West continues to provide support to Ukraine, describing it as fueling the fire in an unsuccessful attempt to defeat Russia. Fico further claimed that some Western leaders, like those in France and Poland, have warned about Russian hybrid attacks. He emphasized that Slovakia and NATO are not at war, but he expressed concern that some war-minded individuals within NATO are striving to transform the ongoing war in Ukraine into a confrontation between Russia and NATO.

Earlier in the week, Fico cautioned that a drone incursion could trigger the activation of NATO's collective defense clause, urging to prevent Slovakia from becoming entangled in an armed conflict.
