Mumbai: BMC To Spend ₹6.59 Crore To Repair 23 Roads In Goregaon, Malad After Encroachment Drives

Mumbai, September 19, 2026 - The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to allocate Rs 6.59 crore for repairing 23 roads in Goregaon and Malad following clearance of encroachments and widening of key sections. The civic body aims to restore the cleared stretches, reopen them to traffic, and prevent further encroachments.

Encroachments have contributed to traffic congestion and road blockages, prompting multiple clearance drives by ward officials. Similar issues persist in the P-South ward of Goregaon, where encroachments and unauthorized structures have exacerbated traffic problems. Despite recent anti-encroachment efforts and the "Pedestrian First" initiative, damaged and uneven road surfaces remain due to clearance operations.

The BMC has identified 23 roads for repair, including Aarey Petrol Pump in Goregaon (West), Bandu Gore Road near the station in Goregaon (East), and Nigos Road in Goregaon (East). The proposal to appoint M/s Rajaram Construction, the lowest bidder at 38% below the BMC's estimated rates, will be presented at the upcoming standing committee meeting. Residents urge the BMC to ensure quality repairs and proper monitoring to prevent new hazards.
