Qatar continues to strengthen strategic partnership with UN, support multilateral action

Doha, Qatar - The State of Qatar continues to bolster its strategic partnership with the United Nations (UN), demonstrating unwavering support for multilateral action, according to HE Sheikha Hanouf bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In her address to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Her Excellency highlighted that Qatar's involvement in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) reflects the nation's commitment to advancing international dialogue, building strategic alliances, and addressing global challenges.

Her Excellency emphasized that Qatar's partnership with the UN transcends traditional boundaries, extending to collaboration with the UN Secretariat, agencies, funds, and programs. This multi-faceted relationship has flourished over the years, marked by enhanced strategic dialogue, joint agreements, and financial contributions. The recent establishment of the United Nations House in Doha, which opened in 2023 and accommodates 14 UN offices, further solidifies Qatar's dedication to multilateralism and its role in fostering international cooperation.

This partnership was profoundly tested in 2025 when Doha hosted the Second World Summit for Social Development, attracting a wide array of stakeholders, including heads of state and government, international organizations, civil society representatives, and youth activists. The summit culminated in the adoption of the Doha Political Declaration, reaffirming global commitments to poverty eradication, decent work, social protection, social inclusion, and inclusive development. The declaration was subsequently endorsed by the UNGA in Resolution 80/5.

In December 2025, Qatar took the lead by hosting the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. This event underscored Qatar's dedication to international cooperation, institutional capacity building, accountability, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption and transnational crime.

Her Excellency underscored that Qatar's support for the UN extends beyond logistical contributions, focusing on translating shared priorities into actionable pathways through strategic dialogues, technical collaboration, capacity building, and joint initiatives.

A cornerstone of Qatar's partnership with the UN remains its unwavering support for Least Developed Countries (LDCs), as exemplified by the Doha Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2022-2031. Qatar has pledged USD 60 million to aid in the program's implementation, with the funds now being channeled into practical initiatives aimed at tackling structural challenges such as food security, climate change, and economic shocks, while enhancing access to finance and technology.

Furthermore, Her Excellency highlighted that Qatar's engagement with the UN aligns closely with its foreign policy objectives, including supporting international peace and security, mediation, preventive diplomacy, humanitarian efforts, and sustainable development. The nation remains committed to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, utilizing the UN's institutional mechanisms to convey developments and facilitate the Security Council's mandate in maintaining global peace and security, particularly in the wake of the Iranian attacks against Qatari territory and the subsequent Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
