Mitchell, Clark lead Fever past Tempo 103-85

Kelsey Mitchell set a WNBA single-season scoring record with 33 points, becoming the first player to reach 1,000 points in less than a season. Caitlin Clark contributed 28 points and 14 assists, leading the Indiana Fever to a 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Friday. Mitchell's game total of 1,034 points surpassed A'ja Wilson's 1,021 point mark set in 2024 while playing for the Las Vegas Aces.

The Fever (27-14) secured their third straight win and eighth in 10 games, while the struggling Toronto Tempo (11-30) suffered their fifth consecutive loss and 17th out of 18.

Laura Juskaite led the Tempo with 22 points, followed by rookie Kiki Rice's 18. Toronto Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley was in attendance at Coca-Cola Coliseum. A Juskaite layup early in the third quarter put the Tempo ahead 57-55. The Fever responded to reclaim a 79-73 lead after the three quarters. Poor free-throw shooting from the home side cost them the game as they went 19-for-30 from the stripe.

Clark and Aliyah Boston represented the United States in their fifth consecutive FIBA World Cup title in Berlin, Germany, last weekend.

The Fever took an early 25-19 lead after the first quarter, but the Tempo made a strong comeback with a 14-1 run in the final 2:48 of the first half to take a 53-50 advantage. Mitchell drained a 22-foot jumper with 3:22 left to put the game away. Clark recorded her 14th double-double of the season and 33rd of her career. The Tempo are set to host the New York Liberty in their home finale on Sunday, while the Fever will host the Washington Mystics in their next game on Sunday.
