LHC Suspends PMDC Notification on Medical College Fee Increase

The Lahore High Court has halted a Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) notification concerning a rise in tuition fees for medical colleges. Justice Khalid Ishaq presided over the hearing brought by Central Park Medical College against the PMDC's notification. Counsel Ramzan Dhudhi represented the petitioner institution. The court was informed that the college had charged Rs 2.1 million from students upon admission, while the PMDC subsequently issued a regulation permitting a five percent annual fee increase.

The attorney also informed the court of another PMDC notification regarding the collection of the Consumer Price Index from students. The petitioner contended that the PMDC lacked legal authority to issue notifications allowing medical college fee increases. It argued that any amendments to relevant legislation, including fee-related changes, could only be enacted by Parliament. Following the arguments, the Lahore High Court suspended the PMDC notification.
